Baylor Honor Roll Status
For the 9th time, Baylor University received elite Honor Roll status as a 2020 Great College to Work for,
Out of the 221 schools that achieved an award for a Great College to Work for, only 42 were also awarded elite Honor Roll status. Baylor was placed in a large category of. Schools 10,000 students or more. The survey from which the award was given was based primarily on employee feedback. Baylor employs over 3,000 faculty and staff, all of whom experience benefits which include tuition remission, paid time off and medical insurance.
Work/life balance is a category in the decision-making process for the award given to Baylor. Lecturer in the Journalism Department, Amber Adamson, said that the time she gets to spend with her daughter because of her flexible work schedule is “priceless.”
“I’m not missing out on moments because I’m stuck in an office from eight to five,” Adamson said.
Baylor has been recognized for its paid parental leave and adoption assistance program, which were implemented in 2017. The purpose of this program is to show Baylor’s commitment to caring for their community.
Adamson said that fellowship with her colleagues and continued relationships with past students made Baylor feel like home.
President Linda A. Livingstone Ph.D. said in a press release, “[The] team and colleagues across the University in creating an environment in which all employees are supported and have an opportunity to thrive.”
The university gives employees discounts for athletic games, free use of the Student Life Center, and dining discounts. These benefits “add value to the total compensation and well-being of faculty and staff, their families and retirees,” according to a press release.
Adamson said Baylor’s Christian mission in their practice and policy is one of her favorite parts of Baylor.
Christian beliefs are a core value at Baylor University. “Our faculty and staff love Baylor and our students and share a deep commitment in helping prepare the next generation of Christian leaders,” President Linda A. Livingstone Ph.D. said in a press release.
A focus point of the survey is job satisfaction/support and respect/appreciation. Richard K. Boyer, the senior consultant at ModernThink, said in a press release, that in the face of unprecedented uncertainty, Baylor’s engagement with their staff never wavered. Boyer said that since Baylor won this achievement in 2020 proves, “that it is possible to be a great workplace even in the face of disruption, uncertainty and limited resources."
